There aren't many alternative bands on the planet who pull in listeners of every age and musical genre. Fewer still manage to exist under the commercial radar yet have a global following. Of those that are left, the majority don't last anywhere near a decade.
Kenny Inglis and Susan Wallace are Cinephile. The band met in 2002 via an advert in the music press. From the quietest of beginnings, their unique sound has gone on to attract and army of fans from around the world. This is music for the ears and the eyes. Unlike most new bands, Cinephile initially chose not to chase their tails with gigs or record deals, concentrating instead on shaping their songs and production values. The results would be unique. Impossible to pigeon hole, this was dark, electronic, vocal driven music with a heavy cinematic slant. It wasn't long before their creative focus began to pay off. Local, national, then international radio started to pick up on this new sound. In turn the interest generated would lead to a succession of live dates, from backrooms to basements, to festival stages and everything in between. Their growing fanbase was galvanised in 2004 when the band played support to Orbital. By word of mouth Cinephile's music would steadily make it's way around the world. As 2005 arrived, the interest in their output had grown to such a level that it wasn't just the music industry who were taking notice. Less than a year later the band would make their on screen debut on the cult TV drama 'Crime Scene Investigation', the biggest show in the world. Four years on, Cinephile continue to win the ears and hearts of people far and wide. With five releases under their belt and numerous high profile appearances on TV, in film, adverts, and video games, we look forward to hearing what this band does next. |
